Why Go Disciple?

This morning I woke up and spent some time in prayer. A lot of things are on my heart as we took a big step in our goal of making disciples with the publishing of Go Disciple this week.

I am thankful for the response from family, friends, and acquaintances as the word got out via social media earlier in the week. The phone calls and messages have been encouraging to say the least.

This morning I woke up and on my computer was the new releases page at Amazon and Go Disciple was on there. All it means is my family and friends bought a copy, but hey…it was still cool to see it. I am thankful to have it completed. It was a project 4 years in the making.

Now that it is out there, it is time to keep moving. Part of that moving on is answering the questions that come when you do anything publicly and there is one question that keeps coming up and I am glad that it does. So, what is it about?

That is the best question someone could ask me because it gives me the opportunity to explain it and why Heather and I are so passionate about discipleship.

I share how Go Disciple got started in detail on the website so I am not going to do that here. Instead, what I am going to do is tell you why I wrote the book.

For three years we had been taking people through the intensive discipleship course and those who have gone through Go Disciple range from college and seminary students to grandparents. It lasts for about 13 weeks and it follows the basic outline of If anyone desires to follow me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. Over those weeks we go into detailed study of what that means. At the same time we fast from TV and Internet, except for work or school, for the first 40 days. Combined with these aspects are morning devotionals as well as evening devotionals. We assume that the people going through it do not know how to have a quiet time and in many cases we are correct.

At the end of those weeks we are always amazed at what God has done. Believe it or not, many of those who have gone through the 13 weeks go back through it a second time because God has done so much in their lives. For some, it was the first time they had ever sensed intimacy with God and that is powerful.

However, the point of Go Disciple is to help them become a disciple so they could, in turn, go make disciples. Without fail, many asked for the notes from the teaching and that is why I wrote Go Disciple.

I took a couple of years waking up early and working on it. By the grace of God, it is completed and out there now.

Here is how to use the book:

It is written in hopes that you can read it and be challenged. It has questions and a challenge at the end of each chapter. The point is not for you to just read it and put it down, but to engage someone else and disciple them as well. It was written to help you Go Disciple. If you will seek to be a disciple then you will most certainly sense the need to go and make Disciples. The book is simply a tool to help you do that in the coming days. On the website there are other resources like the reading schedules and books we use to help you disciple others. We believe in what God is doing and are excited to be a part of God’s unfolding plan to Go and Make Disciples From Here To the Ends of The Earth! ~chad
